Hotfix 0.8.6 Patch Notes

Breathedge 2 Early Access is on Hotfix 0.8.6 as of September 2, 2026 — the second post-launch patch, delivered 48 hours after the August 31 launch. The previous day’s 0.8.5 notes are on the Hotfix 0.8.5 page. Below is what 0.8.6 changed, from the official Steam Community announcement.

This patch is more significant than 0.8.5. The survival balance changes address the most common complaint from the first 48 hours of Early Access, and the quest fixes resolve several progression blockers.

Context: The 48-Hour Window

By September 2, the Early Access community had been playing for approximately 48 hours. Steam reviews were beginning to appear, and the most consistent feedback was about survival systems: food, water, and fatigue were draining too fast in standard difficulty. Hotfix 0.8.6 was RedRuins’ response — a 15% reduction in drain rates for all three survival meters.

Survival Balance Changes

Food, water, and fatigue drain reduced 15%. Food, water, and fatigue drain in standard mode are now 15% slower. The practical impact: players can explore more and manage survival needs less urgently. A 15% reduction means the average player can go approximately 15% longer between food and water breaks.

Easy and Story difficulties still exist if standard still feels harsh. You can switch difficulty without starting a new game. The option to change difficulty is available in game settings.

Quest Fixes

DIY upgrade durability reset fixed. DIY upgrades installed into a food or water machine no longer reset to 100 durability when you remove them. This was a significant material waste bug for players who moved upgrades between machines.

Gamepad lock fixed. Gamepad no longer switches on and stays locked, which used to block switching back to keyboard.

Invisible mouse cursor in menus fixed. Fixed an invisible mouse cursor in menus when a yoke, wheel, or pedals is connected.

Station robot spawn after death fixed. The station robot now comes out of the door if you died next to it during the first dialogue and respawned on the train.

Hatch battery quest — any battery works. The hatch battery quest now accepts any battery from any location. You no longer have to break ice if you already found a battery elsewhere.

10g antenna ice-breaking fix. Knocking ice off the 10g antenna very quickly now counts toward the stage correctly.

Station door ice-breaking reliability. Breaking ice on the station door now advances the quest reliably.

Steam Trading Cards

Steam Trading Cards added. Breathedge 2 now supports Steam Trading Cards. Players can collect and trade cards received from playing, craft them into badges, or sell them on the Steam Community Market.

Impact Assessment

Hotfix 0.8.6 is more significant than 0.8.5. The 15% survival drain reduction affects every player immediately. The quest fixes resolve several issues that were blocking progression for affected players.

The pattern of rapid post-launch patches shows RedRuins is actively monitoring community feedback and delivering fixes quickly.
