Breathedge 2 Combat and Coffinbots

How to beat a machine army with a tired Spraytron and a path back to cover.

Combat and Coffinbots

Combat in Breathedge 2 is a survival tax, not an arena shooter. Steam’s own copy says you will occasionally fight, run away, and shove aside the bodies of less fortunate astronauts. The named threat is the Breathedge Corporation’s Coffinbot army. This page is how to beat those encounters without turning a side job into a loading screen.

If you have not left an airlock yet, start with getting started and survival. If your tool is empty, skip to tools.

What you are actually fighting

Official text: the Corporation started a galaxy-wide war, built Coffinbots, and attacked the largest human settlements. The Man and the suit AI derailed a swift takeover and became target number one. Later, even allies took a shot. That is the fiction. The play is simpler: hostiles that run, fly, jump, or roll, plus debris that still wants your oxygen.

Coffinbots are the headline. They are not raid bosses. They are resource checks. Do you have charge, a range tool, armor modules, and a wreck to kite toward? If the answer is no, leaving is a valid walkthrough step.

Store copy also promises planetary fauna later. Planetary surface combat is on the roadmap, not a day-one promise. Early Access is open space plus the first chapter’s wrecks. Fight what is in the current zone.

The resource check, in order

  1. Charge. A Spraytron that clicks empty is a noisy stick. Recharge at shuttle-station posts when you can. Craft cells only as backup. See tools.
  2. Durability. Separate bar. A full durability tool with no charge still does nothing.
  3. Oxygen. Every second of a fight is a second of survival. Do not duel at one-fifth tank.
  4. Carry weight. A backpack full of posters makes boosts slow. Dump before you pull aggro.
  5. Suit. Armor and tank modules live on spacesuit. Fashion last.

The video in the middle of this page is a long Breathedge 2 gameplay session. Watch how fights interrupt looting, then return here for the checklist. Do not copy a 2025 demo loadout blindly; recipes move. The shape of the fight does not: charge, cover, leave.

How to beat a Coffinbot without being a hero

  • Start the fight next to cover: a module hull, a ring wreck, a camp mast. The stations page is a catalog of those shapes.
  • Use range first. Save the pry tool for doors and panic melee.
  • Strafe with EVA inertia in mind. The controls page is the bind list; this page is the habit. Overshooting a boost is how people die facing the wrong way.
  • If the enemy is faster than your tank, abort. The story is incomplete in Early Access. Nothing in the opening chapter requires you to clear every hostile.
  • After the fight, check charge before you loot the corpse pile. A second bot exists.

Beta hands-on notes (The Honor Dojo, August 2026) described commanding a ship, collecting garbage, upgrading questionable equipment, and dealing with machines while keeping a crew alive. That matches Steam: combat is one verb among loot, repair, and questing. It is not the campaign.

When not to fight

  • Your satiety or water is already in the red. Eat first. Survival.
  • You cannot name the next air pocket.
  • The marker is a job, not a kill quest. Read the text twice. Breathedge hides verbs in jokes.
  • The silhouette is on a planet you cannot land on. That is a skybox. Systems.

Loadouts that make sense in the opening chapter

Runner: tank + light + a charged Spraytron. You are passing through. Scrapper: pry tool + extra hand + armor. You are opening a wreck that might be occupied. Coward (recommended): whatever lets you reach the shuttle. Babe and the Chicken do not need you to podium. Crew.

DIY modules from crafting beat carrying three guns. Upgrade extraction when you harvest, charge when you travel, armor when the zone is loud.

Combat is solved when you can abort a fight without feeling like you failed the game. Until then, keep a full Spraytron, a named landmark behind you, and the tips page for the rest of the first-hour mistakes. The Corporation has an army. You have tape. Spend it on leaving.
