Breathedge 2 Vehicles

Space cars, transport platforms, and why walking is the worst option in open space.

Vehicles

Moving around Breathedge 2 is not just about EVA thrusters and hope. The game includes vehicles that make exploration faster, more oxygen-efficient, and significantly less likely to end in a slow drift toward nothing. This page covers what vehicles exist in Early Access, how they work, and why faster movement is actually a survival mechanic.

If you are looking for the walkthrough instead, check walkthrough. If you want to know what the roadmap promises for future transportation, see the roadmap.

Why vehicles matter more than you think

Oxygen efficiency is the primary reason to upgrade your mobility. Every second spent boosting through open space is a second of air consumed. Faster travel drastically reduces air consumption. A vehicle that cuts travel time in half effectively doubles your oxygen budget for that trip.

This is not obvious on short hops. It becomes critical when crossing larger gaps between stations, wrecks, and the Depot. Players who rely solely on spacesuit thrusters will find their oxygen management much harder than players with vehicle access.

Transportation platforms

Transportation platforms are the first vehicle-related structure players encounter. These are space exit gates for small vehicles. They open automatically when a vehicle approaches, close automatically after transit, and go out of order automatically as well.

Key points about transportation platforms:

  • They handle small vehicles only, not large spacecraft
  • They operate automatically with no player input required
  • They can break down, requiring repair before use
  • They are the gateway between interior spaces and open EVA

Transportation platforms are infrastructure, not vehicles themselves. They are covered here because understanding them explains how vehicle travel fits into the larger movement system.

ZAZ-1: the first spacecraft

The ZAZ-1 is the primary vehicle in Breathedge 2. It is described officially as “the first and only miniature spacecraft capable of being in space for a long time with passengers inside it.” The description also calls it beautiful, reliable, and efficient — which may or may not be ironic given the game’s tone.

Key features of the ZAZ-1:

Extendable arm. The ZAZ-1 has an extendable arm capable of picking up items while the player remains inside. This is not just convenient — it is a survival feature. Getting out to grab something in open space means spending oxygen on the EVA. The arm lets players collect resources without leaving the vehicle.

Unlimited oxygen. This is the headline feature. The ZAZ-1 provides unlimited oxygen for the driver. Players no longer need to monitor their suit tank during vehicle travel. This single feature transforms long-range exploration from a survival challenge into a logistics problem.

Passenger capacity. The ZAZ-1 can carry passengers. Babe, the Chicken, and other crew members can travel with the player. This matters for crew management and for missions that require the full team.

Blueprint locations. Building the ZAZ-1 requires finding blueprints. The first blueprint can be found under the Mayo Ship in a large open area. Players should explore systematically and scan everything that glows or looks like a component.

How to get the ZAZ-1

The ZAZ-1 is not available from the start. Players must:

  1. Find the blueprint components scattered across the game world
  2. Scan each component at designated scan points
  3. Collect all pieces needed for construction
  4. Use a crafting station to assemble the vehicle

The blueprint hunt is part of the early-to-mid game progression. Players who explore thoroughly will find components naturally. Players who rush the main story may need to backtrack for specific wrecks.

Vehicle comparison

Breathedge 2 transport options range from basic spacesuit thrusters to full space vehicles:

Spacesuit thrusters. Always available. Limited range and oxygen. Best for short hops and emergencies.

Transportation platform transit. Automatic. Handles small vehicles. Can break down.

ZAZ-1. Full spacecraft with unlimited oxygen and an extendable arm. The best option for long-range exploration and resource collection.

Other vehicles. The roadmap mentions additional small flying vehicles, ground vehicles, a personal spacecraft, and a warp-jump system. These are 1.0 features, not Early Access content.

Fast travel and teleportation

The game does not include instant teleportation in the traditional sense. Players must physically travel between locations. The ZAZ-1 and other vehicles are the fast travel system.

Some third-party mods offer teleportation features, but these are external tools not covered here. The vanilla game relies on vehicle travel and transportation platforms for movement.

Optimal vehicle habits

Check oxygen before departure. Even with the ZAZ-1’s unlimited oxygen, the suit tank matters if you plan to EVA after arrival.

Use the extendable arm. Do not exit the vehicle to grab nearby items. The arm exists precisely for this situation.

Bring passengers. If a mission involves the full crew, the ZAZ-1 can carry everyone. This avoids split-party logistics.

Repair transportation platforms. When a platform goes out of order, it blocks vehicle transit until repaired. Keep repair materials handy when traveling through active zones.

What vehicles are not yet

Personal spacecraft, warp jumps, and planetary surface vehicles are listed on the 1.0 roadmap. The current Early Access content focuses on the ZAZ-1 and spacesuit mobility. Players expecting a full fleet will need to wait for future updates.

The roadmap also mentions ground vehicles for planetary surfaces. Since planetary gameplay is not yet available, ground vehicles are not yet relevant.

For the current vehicle options, the ZAZ-1 is the answer. Build it early, upgrade it when possible, and use it for every trip that exceeds comfortable EVA range.

When you need to reach a distant wreck, take the ZAZ-1. When you need to cross a large gap, take the ZAZ-1. When oxygen management feels impossible, consider whether a vehicle trip would have made it easier.

The Chicken does not care about your walking speed. The Corporation does not care either. But your oxygen meter definitely cares.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the ZAZ-1?

The primary vehicle in Breathedge 2. It is a miniature spacecraft with an extendable arm for picking up items, unlimited oxygen for the driver, and passenger capacity. It is the best option for long-range exploration and resource collection.

How do I get the ZAZ-1?

Find blueprint components scattered across the game world, scan them at designated points, and craft the vehicle at a crafting station. The first blueprint is under the Mayo Ship in a large open area.

Does the ZAZ-1 have unlimited oxygen?

Yes. The ZAZ-1 provides unlimited oxygen for the driver. Passengers still use their own suit oxygen.

What are transportation platforms?

Space exit gates for small vehicles. They open and close automatically, handle vehicle transit between zones, and can break down requiring repair. They are infrastructure, not vehicles.

Are there other vehicles?

The roadmap mentions additional small flying vehicles, ground vehicles, a personal spacecraft, and warp-jump systems. These are 1.0 features. Early Access currently includes the ZAZ-1 and spacesuit thrusters.
