Oxygen is the first teacher in Breathedge 2. Before combat, before crafting, before the Chicken does something stupid — you will run out of air. This page is the complete oxygen reference: the stations, the Oxyworm crafting chain, and the route planning that keeps the Man alive between refills.

How oxygen actually works

Breathedge 2 tracks two separate systems: oxygen and gas. They are different meters with different sources and different consequences.

Your starting suit holds roughly 600 units of oxygen. That sounds like a number until you boost across a debris field and watch it drop. The base tank is not enough for extended EVA.

Purified Oxygen — the mid-game oxygen fix

Once you find your first Oxyworm, the Purified Oxygen blueprint unlocks. This is your first portable oxygen source.

Recipe: 2 Oxyworm + 1 Metal + 1 Ice = Purified Oxygen (+120 oxygen)

Oxyworms are small pickups scattered through wreckage interiors. They look like segmented creatures frozen in ice or debris. Grab every one you see — the blueprint unlock alone makes the first pickup worth the inventory slot.

Practical oxygen budget with Purified Oxygen:

• Base tank: ~600 units
• Purified Oxygen: +120 units per craft
• With one Purified Oxygen in the quick slot, you have roughly 720 units of breathing room
• Cold zones drain oxygen 15% faster, reducing your effective range

Oxygen stations in Chapter 1

The first major oxygen infrastructure you repair is the Oxygen Station in the starting area. This is a quest objective early in the chapter.

How to repair the Oxygen Station:

1. Find the damaged station during the opening quests
2. Gather repair materials: Metal, Electronics, Wire, Electrical Tape
3. Interact with the station to restore function
4. The station now serves as a refill point for the starting area

Once repaired, the Oxygen Station becomes a safe waypoint. Plan your EVA routes around reaching the station or another refill point before oxygen drops below one-third.

Oxygen chaining — the survival pattern

The core oxygen habit in Breathedge 2 is chaining: moving from one refill point to the next rather than trying to complete long stretches on a single tank.

The chaining pattern:

1. Fill at your base station (starting shuttle or repaired Oxygen Station)
2. EVA toward your target, monitoring oxygen constantly
3. At roughly two-thirds depleted, look for the next waypoint
4. Refill at intermediate stations, posts, or use Purified Oxygen
5. Complete your objective or return before one-third remaining

Why one-third is the rule: At one-third capacity, you have roughly 200 units remaining. That is enough for a safe return to the nearest station if you do not panic-boost. Below one-third, even a minor wrong turn can become a suffocation event.

Oxyworm Nests — the advanced oxygen chain

Scattered across Chapter 1 are Oxyworm Nests — locations where multiple Oxyworms can be found or harvested. The “Study the Oxyworm Nests” quest asks you to scan five of these locations.

Finding Oxyworm Nests:

• Look for ice formations in sheltered wreckage interiors
• Check areas with active oxygen infrastructure
• Scan glowing or organic-looking debris
• Some nests respawn after a in-game period

Using Oxyworm Nests:

• Each Oxyworm collected moves you toward the Purified Oxygen blueprint
• After collecting enough, craft Purified Oxygen at the processor
• Stock at least two Purified Oxygen for extended EVA sessions

Ice and the Kettle — alternative oxygen sources

Ice appears throughout the game as a resource. The Kettle — a crafting tool — can process ice into usable oxygen.

Ice as oxygen:

• Loose ice chunks are found around stations and in debris fields
• The Kettle converts ice into oxygen at a processing station
• This creates a renewable oxygen source if you have ice stockpiled

Kettle processing:

• Build the Kettle at a crafting station
• Load with ice when you have surplus
• Process to generate oxygen for your suit tank

Cold zones and oxygen drain

Cold zones — areas with significantly reduced temperature — drain oxygen approximately 15% faster than standard vacuum. This is not a visible meter; it is a percentage increase in your consumption rate.

Surviving cold zones:

• Reduce EVA time in cold areas by 15–20%
• Carry additional Purified Oxygen as buffer
• Look for heated interiors to serve as intermediate waypoints
• Consider thermal suit modules once available

Planning oxygen-efficient routes

The practical skill in Breathedge 2 is route planning: knowing where refill points exist and building your EVA around them.

Route planning habits:

1. Before leaving a station, identify the next refill point on your route
2. Mark oxygen stations on your mental map as you discover them
3. When taking a job marker, check if the path passes known refill points
4. Always carry at least one Purified Oxygen as emergency backup
5. Return to base or a station when any meter is at one-third

The emergency protocol:

• Purified Oxygen in quick slot
• Find nearest solid object for cover
• Stop all movement to reduce oxygen consumption
• Deploy Purified Oxygen
• Plan return route to nearest station

What oxygen is not

Oxygen does not restore health. It does not affect carrying capacity. It does not power tools. Confusing oxygen with gas is a common beginner mistake — they are separate systems that happen to both relate to breathing.

The Gas system powers suit systems and tools. A depleted gas tank will cause your Spraytron to stop working even with full oxygen. Keep separate stockpiles of both resources.

The Chicken does not need oxygen. You do. Keep the Man breathing, and the Chicken will sort itself out.
